Bel Air, California
Sited in the L.A.’s Beverly Glen Canyon, the existing two–story house was thoroughly gutted and remodeled, and a master bedroom suite and yoga studio with reflecting pond were added. The building’s L–shaped configuration shapes the property’s main exterior multi–purpose area – which includes free range chickens, friendly dogs, a future lap pool, landscaping and a fire pit–deck area.
Although constrained by retaining walls due to the adjacent ascending hill, every attempt was made to provide generous openings from every room to the adjoining exterior gardens and decks. The breakfast nook table continues through an open–able window so that diners can eat around the same table both inside and outside. To compensate for the existing building’s deep floor plan, a large operable skylight area provides generous natural light and ventilation to the home’s central area.
